Introducing The Rev. Kalyn Stevwing
Posted September 17, 2024
The Reverend Kalyn Stevwing has begun her ministry as Senior Pastor of Ohio United Church in Aliquippa as of August 5. Her name, with its unique spelling, is pronounced Kay – Lynn. She goes by K by some of her friends.
Kalyn received her B.A. degree from Westminster College where she majored in Christian Education and minored in Music.
After college Kalyn spent a year working in retail and customer service, followed by two years as a PC(USA) Young Adult Volunteer. The first year she worked with Habitat for Humanity in New Orleans, LA and the second year she taught English at SaeUm Church in Daejeon, South Korea.
As a Young Adult Volunteer she discerned what God had in store. The next step involved entering Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.
There were early indications, however, that Kalyn belonged in ministry. While attending a youth conference at Camp Crestfield, when she was 16-years-old, a speaker in the roomful of youth pointed at her and said, “I (God) call you into ministry.” That, and several other affirmations through the years, were signs from God.
Kalyn met her husband, Felix, at seminary. Felix has a Master of Divinity degree and a Master of Theological Studies degree. Kalyn says, “He has an affinity for political theology but loves to discuss ALL of it!”
The couple have two sons—Miguel who is five years old and Emilio who will be two years old in December. Kalyn explains, “Miguel is very friendly. Emilio is too, but he is a bit like Bam Bam Rubble.” The family share their home with three cats—Kingsley, Howie, and Vinnie.
We welcome Kalyn and her family to Beaver-Butler Presbytery and look forward to getting to know them. And we lift prayers of blessing for this new chapter in the life of Ohio United Church.
