The Gift of Clean Water

Carmen Shullo, the Commissioned Pastor of Trinity Church in Butler, is also a hospice chaplain led by who he considers to be two extraordinary people. He feels that Rich and Lori have a heart for people. About two years ago Lori sent Pastor Carmen a video featuring the ministry of a friend of their’s, Dr. Steve Greene. Dr. Greene, a Pittsburgh pediatrician, had a vision born from a life-changing medical mission trip to Ghana.
In the video Carmen saw adults and children traveling a road to access water as far as five miles. The water, gathered from whatever puddle or pit they could find, was grey, at best, but it was water. That it was shared with animals made no difference and the scene was heartbreaking. “I couldn’t unsee it,” Carmen says.
The video was produced by Hope for Ghana, Greene’s non-profit public charity dedicated to transforming lives and creating opportunities in rural Ghana through education, access to clean water, and healthcare. By fostering hope, empowerment, and sustainability, Hope for Ghana is striving to build resilient communities and brighter futures for generations to come.
Founded in 2011 Hope for Ghana has achieved remarkable milestones, building four schools, twelve libraries and computer labs, and providing access to clean, potable water in over 100 villages.
Carmen felt led to share the video with the session of Trinity Church. The session felt Trinity Church should get involved. So the video was shown to the congregation. The Congregation thought they should get involved. Steve was invited to come and share his ministry in September of 2024.
A collection was taken with plans to have a fundraiser. But as God would have it, and on the Sunday the fundraiser was announced, someone happened to be sitting in worship who struggled to get water to their home for almost two years. They asked what was needed to reach the goal and topped it off.
With the funds that Trinity Church provided, a well, or bore hole, was built in 2025 in the village of Netime. A video of the day the well was dedicated was shared Trinity Church. Much joy, celebration and gratefulness is expressed by the people of Netime for Trinity Church’s generous gift. And Trinity Church is grateful for their part in providing clean water in Ghana.
